SENIOR HIGH CHOIR: The senior high choir members are going to Three Hills on May 8 & 9 for ACSI Musicale. Parents, please note the following new information:

-         We will be staying at the Best Western Diamond Inn because the dorm rooms are full. This is really short notice for another form, but we would really appreciate your help by returning the permission form tomorrow. Thanks!

We will be leaving the school at 7:45 AM SHARP on Thursday morning. Please make sure your teenager has his/her complete choir outfit! We will not be lending out bits and pieces of clothing items this year J.

CHOIR NEWS CONTINUED: The concert on Thursday night starts at 8:00 PM and everyone is welcome to attend. The concert on Friday night starts at 6:30 PM. Mrs. Scott will be leaving AKCS on the bus at 4:45 PM on Friday. If you want to go on the bus, please phone Mrs. Scott. If no one is interested, then Mrs. Scott will leave later.

SWEATER SWAP: Our second annual Sweater Swap will happen over the course of 2 weeks; Friday,

June 6th and Friday, June 13th. During the week of May 26th, we will begin accepting CLEAN, GENTLY USED sweaters in good repair. All sweaters will be sold (and can be purchased) for $25.00. Please note that although AKCS will facilitate the swap, cheques will be made payable to the vendor.

AKCS PRAYER MEETING:  The next prayer meeting for parents will be on Wednesday, May 21, from 7:00 - 7:45 pm in the Library at the school.  If you have any questions, please email Phil Harms at philh11@hotmail.com.

Future Prayer Meeting: Wednesday, June 18th

CROSSING GUARDS: During the month of May, some of the Grade 5 students are learning to be crossing guards. Please be patient with them during this learning process. We want to make sure that all our children can cross the road safely.

YEAR-END VERSES: The deadline for saying the entire year’s verses is Friday,

May 30, at 2:25 PM. There will be no exceptions made. If you are planning on being away during that time, please arrange for your child to say their verses prior to

May 30.  Parents, please make sure that your child has said the verses to you at home with 10 mistakes or less before trying to say them here at school. Please note that this is the same day as the Elementary Track Meet for Grades 3-6. This is a very busy day, so we would encourage the students to say their verses prior to that day if at all possible.

LISTENING TO VERSES: Parents, if you would be willing to come in one morning or afternoon (or even for 1 hour) to listen to year-end verses, please complete the tear-off portion and return it to school. Thank you to those who have already volunteered. We will be contacting you to set up a time.

ESPN (EAGLE SPORTS NEWS):

By Mr. Jason Perry, Athletic Director

Track and Field

Practices continue on Monday evenings for 1 hour after school (provided that the ground is dry). You will be responsible for practicing an hour on your own time as well. Permission forms and fees should have been taken to the office already. Senior team (grades 9-12) will be going to Rockyview Divisionals on Tuesday, May 13th. We will be leaving the school at 8:00. Do not be late….it’s a long run to Foothills Athletic Park. J We should be returning to the school at about 5ish…depending on traffic.

Soccer

Practices continue (provided good weather and field conditions) running this Tuesday and Thursday after school until between 4:30 and 5:00. Game(s) will be on May 10th in Calgary at 2031 Sable Dr. SE (just off 17 Ave. SE). I’d advise you to look up the location on yahoo maps (or some other type of map) well before Saturday to know where you are going. Our first game is at 9:00. We would like you to be there by 8:00-8:15. Coach Peden will have some instructions for you, and we will also need to give you your pinny to wear over your gym strip (wear your entire gym strip, t-shirt and shorts). Here is the schedule for Saturday:

 Round Robin

9:00 AM

ALM vs. AKCS

12:00 PM

AKCS vs. FFCA: DAV 2

Playoffs (if we qualify):

Either at 2:00 or 3:00. If we lose we go home; if we win then we play at 4:00. If we win that we play in the final at 5:00.

-         All Games will consist of 2 halves (20 minutes/half).  Half time will be a 10 minute break

-         Soccer fields will be labelled (we are group A).

Please bring enough food and drink for yourself to last the day. Make sure you have a ride ready to pick you up whenever we get eliminated (depending when our day finishes). That could be anywhere between 2:00 (if we didn’t qualify for playoffs) all the way to 6:00 (if we are in the final). Mr. Perry cannot leave until all students are picked up and at the end of the day he would like to go home to his family. J

IMPORTANT PARKING ANNOUNCEMENT: The church is having gravel work done on the parking lot and has requested that we do not park anywhere in front of the church or south of the garbage bin for the remainder of this week. We realize that this is going to cause some parking problems, but would ask that you do the best that you can in order to prevent a major traffic jam. If you would kindly pick up your children and then immediately vacate the loop, that will make it possible for other parents to park and do the same. Please remember to drive under 15 km/hr anywhere in the loop. Thanks for your co-operation.
