Under Attack?

From time to time I encounter a series of difficulties which makes me think that there is more to the situations than meets the eye. What I mean by that is that I become aware of the spiritual battle raging about us and that the warfare has intensified and that this then requires an equally intense response from us through prayer. I feel we are in one of those times right now.

Here are some of the things of which I am aware:

1.      Over the past few weeks we have encountered a tremendous amount of physical sickness among our students. One day last week almost half our grade five class was out with a nasty flu bug, and it is still making its rounds through the classes.

2.      There are several student to student conflicts that are causing grief for the students, teachers and even the parents.

3.      There have been some negative attitudes towards school, work, and even the Lord from some of our older students and that has affected even those who are normally very positive.

4.      We have been struggling to get space for practice times and home games for our basketball teams, but every time we think we have a plan in place, the rug gets pulled out from under us.

5.      There have been a couple of instances of division between parents and school staff over a variety of issues.

On top of these more immediate issues there always remains the concern about providing a permanent home for the school. (The Prayer Corner this week is a good reminder of how we should approach this.)

My sense about all this is that there is a spiritual attack underway as the enemy seeks to sow division and discouragement. I am asking all of us to pray against the enemy and pray for God’s victory in each of these situations. Furthermore, let us not forget in these times to rejoice before God for His goodness to us: We have great kids, great teachers, great parents, and a great board. This is what really makes a school. Our program continues to improve each year with more students involved in sports teams and worship teams and new additions like the Chapel committee and senior choir.

Looking ahead, the high school expansion is moving forward on schedule (Yes! We did get the Building Permit!) and will be a wonderful addition when it is complete sometime in February. (Pray for the Occupancy Permit.) And most importantly at Easter we will be sending our Missions team to Mexico. It will be an exciting time of growth and ministry for our young people.

So there is much for us to celebrate, but we must be very aware of Satan’s efforts to disrupt things, and we must always remember that all of the blessings come from God and are not due to our own strength and wisdom. May the Lord keep us alert, humble, and faithful. Thank you in advance for your prayers.
