TRAFFIC ALERT!
Updated
2004-10-20
With the increased numbers of students and cars, dropping
off and picking up children continues to present challenges. For
Safety’s Sake: Please
read and abide by the following Traffic Rules. They are all important.
1.
In
the mornings,
please do not wait in the loop with your children in your vehicle,
and do not park in the loop.
This increases congestion and forces other parents to double
park to drop off their children. Please note the following:
a) On very cold days, Building
K is open from 8:00 to 8:25
for children to get out of the cold. A staff member is on duty to supervise.
b) On most days, children
should be able to wait outside for a few minutes. Teachers are out of the Admin building
around 8:20-25.
2.
In
the afternoons,
please do not leave your vehicle unattended while in the loop. (Standing on the sidewalk for
fellowship is encouraged!) However, if your children do not arrive by 3:25,
please move along and
allow others to pick up their children. If you need to go into a building,
please park in the lots by the church.
3.
Never double park to drop off or pick up students.
a) It is unsafe as students must walk
between parked cars (cars which could back up or pull forward at any time) to
get into these vehicles.
b) It stops other traffic from moving and
generally slows the process.
4.
Do not park either in the staff parking area
or behind the staff vehicles.
a) Students must then cross at the wrong
places to get into these vehicles.
b) Having cars merge from both sides
creates more risk of accident between vehicles and more risk to children who
might not be where they should be.
c) Sometimes teachers leaving early for an appointment
or sports activity have been blocked in.
5.
Do not park on the left side of the drive at
any point, including
between the tarmac and drive.
a) It is safer to have the area open and
cross the drive than for students to cross between parked cars.
b) Have your children walk from the last
building to your car on the right side of the driveway and cars.
6.
Do not park in the four parking spaces directly
in front of the church
(two on each side of the entrance.)
7.
Students are to wait in front of the church
on the sidewalk for
their rides and not on the grass in front of the church or in the ditches.
a) Children coming from multiple directions
increases the risk.
b) Park far enough back from church
sidewalk so people have room to walk on the sidewalk.
8.
Students,
especially elementary ones, should get into their vehicles and
stay there.
9.
Students
may play on the tarmac, but they will not be allowed to use balls as too many have gone into the drive in
front of cars.
10. Please pick up students by
3:35. We will ask them
to return to the areas around portables at 3:35 for their safety and to avoid
problems with students in front of the church.
PLEASE RESPECT THE DIRECTIONS
OF THE TEACHER ON DUTY.
OUR CHILDREN’S SAFETY (NOT OUR CONVENIENCE) IS PARAMOUNT. Thank you for your attention to this! Please
ensure that any friends or relatives who are driving for you have been made
aware of these concerns also.
