Teacher Salary Grid Salary is obviously not the first consideration in teaching, especially when one's work can be a place of such fulfillment, but it is not unimportant. We try to balance the sacrifice that parents make in paying tuition from after tax dollars with what teachers sacrifice in before tax dollars. This is part of the genuine "Koinonia" (fellowship) we experience as we serve the Lord together. The AKCS salary grid is set up so that each salary is determined as the product of the base salary (Year 0--Class I) and the indicated factor. To determine an individual salary, multiply the factor in the appropriate row (years of experience) and column (education level--see below) times the base salary ($37,024 for 2007-2008). There are several unique features to this grid which are designed to encourage those who are seeking a long career in Christian education: First, increments are not uniform, with larger increases occurring in the early years to recognize the learning curve of new teachers. Second, loyalty is rewarded by providing a promotion to another class every five years with the Koinonia Schools (note factors in red). Third, full credit is given for Bible college education in terms of Class placement. Fourth, full credit is given for prior K-12 teaching experience, public or private. Fifth, increments continue up to twenty years. Sixth, teachers with children receive 100% tuition subsidy as an additional taxable benefit. Finally, teachers with their ACSI teaching certificate receive an additional 3% of the grid base, or around $1,000. This grid with the various bonuses provides salaries which ranges from 76% to 95% of what a teacher would earn in the local public system depending on factors such as education, experience, tuition support, Bible College education, years with Koinonia, etc. The average AKCS teacher receives around 85%. Take home pay, of course, is even closer due to the progressive tax system and freedom from union dues, and the modest difference is definitely worthwhile! Cost of living increases are given every year in addition to the annual increment for experience. A comprehensive Teacher Benefits package is also provided and can be viewed as a WORD download. AKCS believes that the "laborer is worthy of his hire" and that teachers should not be burdened with financial worries as they pursue their calling to teach in a Christian school.Salary Grid Factors Exp/Ed.
